This year the Olympic National Forest is providing the 2006 Christmas tree that will stand in front of the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington D.C. during the holidays.

Hi. I’m Claire Turner with 4-H Network News – a youth run media club based in Port Hadlock, WA.

The 65-foot Pacific Silver fir will be decorated with 10,000 LED lights and over 3,000 ornaments handmade by Washington youth.

On December 6th, The Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives will light the 45 –year-old tree during a ceremony viewed on C-Span nationwide.

The biggest challenge organizing the evergreen state's national gift has been financial. You can help support our community's spirit of giving by buying a $4 Capitol Christmas Tree Lapel Pin at: Capitol Christmas Tree 2006 dot org.

Want to follow the 2006 Capitol Christmas Tree online as it makes its 4,300 mile trek from Seattle, Washington to Washington, DC? It's easy!

You can go to Capitol Christmas Tree 2006 Dot Org and select “Tree Tracker” from the left menu bar to see the exact map location of the 65- foot Pacific Silver Fir as it motors eastward along Interstates, highways, byways, country roads and city streets.

SkyBitz has installed a GLS 200 satellite communicator on the custom 70-foot flatbed trailer that carries the 45 year-old tree. A signal will be sent via satellite every 15 minutes and the location will be displayed online for everyone to see.

Oregon provided the Capitol Christmas tree in 2002, Idaho in 2003,
Virginia in 2004, and New Mexico last year shipped a 80-foot Engelmann Spruce 1,816 miles to Washington D.C.

This year Washington State is giving the nation's Capitol a magnificent 45-year-old Pacific Silver fir that grew naturally on a steep bank above the headwaters of the Wynoochee River in the Olympic National Forest.
